Privacy Policy

Why You? ("we", "us") operates the hiring platform at getwhyyou.com, based in Mangaldoi, Assam, India. This policy applies to anyone who uses the platform as a candidate (job seeker) or as part of a hiring company.

Account information. Your name and email address, managed through our authentication provider, Clerk. If you sign up with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from them.

Candidate profile information. Resume file, parsed skills, education history, work experience, projects, achievements, bio, location, profile photo, and banner image, whatever you choose to add or upload.

Company profile information. Company name, industry, business registration details, work email domain, logo, banner, and about text, used to verify your company before you can post roles.

Skill exam data. Your answers, scores, and timing for skill exams you take. For proctored exams specifically, see the dedicated section below since it works differently from ordinary form data.

Space activity. Posts, comments, likes, saves, and follows you make in the Space feed.

Support requests. Anything you submit through the support ticket form.

Usage and device data. Standard technical data like IP address, browser type, and pages visited, collected automatically to keep the service secure and working.

Proctored skill exams require live camera and screen sharing access before you can start, so that recruiters can trust the result. Here is exactly what that does and does not involve.

We do not record or store your camera or screen. The video and screen share streams are used only in real time, in your browser, to confirm the camera and screen share are active for the duration of the exam. Nothing from those streams is uploaded, saved, or reviewed by us or by any company afterward.

What we do store is limited to whether the exam was completed under proctoring (yes or no), and whether the camera or screen share was interrupted during the attempt, which invalidates the result. No image, video, or audio data from the session itself is retained.

Because verification happens client side, it relies on you keeping the camera and screen share on as instructed. We do not have a way to independently confirm what a camera saw after the fact, since nothing is recorded.

To operate the core product. That means matching candidates to roles, showing recruiters verified skills, running the Space feed, sending you notifications about applications and interviews, and responding to support requests. We also use it to keep the platform secure and to improve it over time. We do not sell your personal information.

We use a small number of service providers to run the platform, each of whom processes data on our behalf under their own security commitments.

• Clerk. Authentication and account management.
• Neon. Our Postgres database host.
• Vercel. Application hosting and file storage for resumes, photos, and banners.
• Anthropic. AI models used to parse resumes and generate skill exam questions.
• Google and Apple. Only if you choose to sign in with those providers.

Recruiters at a company only see the candidate profile information you've made visible to them, either by applying to their role or by opting into Find People discovery, not your private account settings.

Whether your profile appears in Find People, visible to other candidates and to recruiters browsing nearby talent, is controlled entirely by a toggle on your profile, off by default. You can turn it on or off at any time.

We use the cookies our authentication provider (Clerk) sets to keep you signed in, and a local preference cookie for light or dark theme. We do not use third party advertising or tracking cookies.

You can request account deletion at any time from your account settings. Once requested, there is a 24 hour window in which you can cancel the request. After that, your account is deactivated and treated as deleted. Some records may be retained briefly afterward where needed for legal, security, or accounting reasons.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Most of this you can already do directly from your profile settings. For anything else, contact us using the details below.

Why You? is intended for people old enough to seek employment or run a hiring process, and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the minimum working age in their jurisdiction.

Our infrastructure runs in Singapore and Mumbai data center regions. By using the platform, you understand your information may be processed in those locations.

We may update this policy as the product changes. We will update the last updated date above when we do. Significant changes will be communicated more directly where appropriate.
